Privacy Policy
Effective: June 5, 2026
Peak ("we", "us", "the app") is built and operated by a single individual ("the developer"). This policy explains exactly what data Peak handles. It is short because Peak does not collect data.
Summary
- Peak runs entirely on your Mac. We do not have access to your data because we do not receive your data.
- Peak does not create accounts, profiles, or identifiers tied to you.
- Peak makes no outbound network connections. Software updates are delivered by the Mac App Store.
- Peak does not include analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, advertising IDs, fingerprinting, or any third-party SDKs that send data anywhere.
What Peak reads on your Mac
Peak is a sandboxed Mac App Store app. It reads only the iPhone-backup folder you explicitly select, for the sole purpose of generating the reports you ask for:
- iPhone backup folder that you select (typically
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/) — specifically thesms.dbSQLite database and the attachment files referenced by the threads you choose to scan. AddressBook.sqlitedbinside that backup — phone numbers and email addresses, used solely to resolve message handles to contact names. No other contact fields are read, and Peak never accesses the Mac's own Contacts app.
Because Peak is sandboxed, it cannot read any other location on your disk.
What Peak writes on your Mac
- Reports (PDFs, CSVs) to the location you choose in the save dialog when you export.
- Scan history database inside Peak's sandboxed app container — records which threads you've scanned and when, for the UI's "last scanned" indicator. Contains no message content.
- User preferences inside Peak's app container — your application settings. No message content.
What Peak sends over the network
Nothing. Peak makes no outbound network connections at all — software updates are delivered by the Mac App Store, so Peak never needs to contact a server.
You can verify this with Little Snitch, Lulu, or the macOS nettop command.
Children's privacy
Peak is a tool designed for parents to review their own minor children's iPhone messages on a Mac they own. Peak does not collect personal information from children directly because Peak does not have an online service. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) regulates online collection of personal information from children under 13; Peak collects no such information.
If you use Peak to review messages from a child under 13, you remain the responsible adult for those records and their disposition.
Third-party software included in Peak
Peak's open-source dependencies are listed in the application's About window. None of these dependencies make outbound network calls in the App Store build.
Changes to this policy
If the policy ever changes (for example, if Peak adds an optional cloud-sync feature in the future), the change will be announced in the release notes accompanying the affected version, and you will have the choice not to install that version.
